About the Book: This is a story about a father and his son, who walk alone through burned America after some unspecified disaster. Much of the book is written in the third person, with references to "the father" and "the son" or to "the man" and "the boy".
The land is filled with ash and devoid of living animals and vegetation. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. When the snow falls it is gray. Trees are burned and fruits are fallen, black and tasteless. Many of the remaining human survivors have resorted to cannibalism and scavenging. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don’t know what awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food—and each other.
The man repeatedly reassures the boy that they are "the good guys" who are "carrying the fire". They face many obstacles. The father is ill. To know, what happens next, the book is to be read.
Book received many critical acclamations.
My Take: We have heard eventually Sun would start to die and the Earth and Human kind will meet their end too. While reading this book I felt that dread and I had tears in my eyes while reading the last page. Book was adapted into a Hollywood movie by the same name in 2009.
